Over the last few years we have established a routine of either groups requesting updates, or individuals/ organisations hosting update events.
Those of you who have been on recent MovES Ltd courses or updates will know about MANAS (see the MovES Ltd site), why it has come about, and its intended purposes.
As part of the drive to support NMA/ NMAHM® practice and its professional standing we have already begun to develop some Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for practitioners.
To further assist the process we indicated last year that we would begin to change the format of the updates with a view to enabling NMA/ NMAHM® practitioners, including MANAS members, to demonstrate their knowledge and skills base.
We have also begun to develop a Record of Assessed Development (ROAD) to further support and evidence skill levels.
While we still want to be as open, flexible and responsive to groups, and individuals within groups as we have been on previous updates there are some elements of current NMA/ NMAHM® practice which may not be known to some practitioners, yet are fundamentally required to support contemporary professional practice in general, and at different stages (legal duties, professional responsibilities) of career progression.
We are also aware that the opportunity for supporting further development within the updates exists if a common entry level of knowledge and skills can be established. Associated progression could be mapped as part of the ROAD process.
We plan to encompass key requirements as themes within the content of the updates to add to the robustness of evidence-informed practice.
We also plan a progression between different update formats, and that our intention is that any CPD activity indicated to complete a process is practice-focused as much as possible.
As such the CPD may be applicable not just to meeting your NMA/ NMAHM® needs but should also be applicable to meeting other professional CPD activities including assisting you in your personal development plans etc.
We already have some in-house updates planned.
To meet everyone else's updating needs, we are starting to get the rest of the 2009-10 schedule together.
Venues
We are already looking at hiring venues for updates, but are aware that hiring facilities necessarily raises costs.
So in an attempt to keep costs down for you this is a (first and only) call to see if anyone due to update who has access to a training room/ equivalent is willing to host an update.
If you are willing to host an update, and subject to the update being viable (sufficient numbers), you will automatically get a free place.
Not only would you get a free place but we will offer you the choice of whether to simply host the event, or to also undertake some of the administration for the event (which means you may also be able to generate some income).
More details will be published upon the MovES Ltd web-site following completion of the review and updating process within the next few weeks.

MovES, MANAS & the NMA
A word or two about MANAS ~ MovES Academy of Neuromuscular Approach to Human Movement Studies ….
The idea of MANAS has come about in response to ongoing discussion with previous and current students of the Neuromuscular Approach.
A core group was formed in March 2006 to consider future support and development needs for the Approach, teaching of the Approach and people involved in studying and using the Approach within their personal and/ or professional practice.
While MovES~Movement Education Services Ltd continues to be the primary provider of Neuromuscular Approach services, and its directors as current co-developers of the Approach it is recognised that the degree of work, duties and responsibilities associated with provision of services cannot reasonably continue to rest solely with them.
It has also been their long-standing intention that the mantle should spread more widely as NMA students continue to advance.
The notion of MANAS being developed as a central point of information, knowledge and excellence in NMAHM® practice was mooted as a solution.
Its 'birth' was announced almost a year ago: overall interest in MANAS and its associated Forum has been trialled, and the degree and pattern of activity monitored.
The setting up of formal paid membership was deliberately delayed until information and shared thinking from core group activities related to shaping future NMAHM® practice could be presented at the next due NMAA Study Day: this occurred on 20/3/09.
At present membership will continue to be offered on a free basis to previous MovES Ltd’s students: details (requirements for membership) will be found upon the Forum page.
From 1st October 2009 formal membership will be instigated.
